The computer science community at Surrey is filled with brilliant people at the top of their field, but I felt very comfortable approaching any one of my lecturers with concerns and requests for help.

During my Professional Training placement, when I witnessed my analysis being used to undermine the Prosecution’s chief witness, it gave me the confidence to know that I was capable of working in this profession. I am very grateful to my placement supervisor and all I learnt from him in that year.

The teaching staff at Surrey were phenomenal and clearly all enjoyed their jobs, which shone through during lectures and seminars. The teaching allowed me to pick up complex legal principles more easily. Great teaching really does make all the difference.

...you had lecturers doing their research and then bringing that into the classroom and so it felt very cutting edge, very new and you really felt like you hadn’t just been given a bunch of dusty old text books, it was actually something tangible and current and real, so it made it a very engaging academic experience.

...the Â鶹ÊÓƵ was very much about the students and what they could do for the students rather than what the students could do for the university. So I really liked that kind of culture.

I spent four months in Spain and six months in Germany and the opportunity to use my language in both those countries was something I thought would be really valuable to improve my language skills.

The option to do a placement year was a huge draw for me as I felt it would be incredibly beneficial for kickstarting my career. I quickly got the impression that Surrey was a great place to gain experience and get the support you need to enter the world of work.

By studying media and communications I was able to cover a lot of topics, which helped me decide what area of media I wanted to go into for my career.

The placement year was one of the reasons I came to Surrey because I could have that work experience.
