Why did you choose to study at the Â鶹ÊÓƵ?
I chose Surrey for its high ranking in league tables for Psychology, and based on the wonderful applicant day I attended. It was amazing to see the range of facilities from AI to neuroimaging that was available to students, and meet with some of the world class faculty in mock lectures. I also fell in love with the campus - the lake, the park, the charming accommodation so close to the library.
What was the best thing about your course?
I loved the freedom I had on the course to focus on areas that were of highest interest to me through elective modules. I appreciated the workshops between lectures that allowed us to really dive into the topics and get to know other students. My lecturers were always passionate and incredibly knowledgeable in their fields. I most enjoyed working on my dissertation, which led me to design and conduct an original experiment, carry out complex statistical analyses, and make findings new to the field. I am very grateful to have had the opportunity to work with my dissertation supervisor, who was a world leading academic and one of my greatest supporters.

Life after Surrey
What do you do now?
I am a Programme Manager working with energy networks, government, and many other important stakeholders to shape the UK’s net zero energy future. I was selected as a Global Future Energy Leader by the World Energy Council, and shortlisted for the UK's Young Energy Professional of the Year award. Having a positive impact on the world has always been my number one goal, and I am so proud that I get to make meaningful contributions to debates and policies that are paramount to a sustainable future.
How has your time at Surrey helped you get to where you are now?
While I have never worked as a psychologist, I gained so much from my course at Surrey, such as being able to critically assess theories and evidence, to conducting experiments and putting together a convincing argument. I use these skills daily in my role to make well researched recommendations for sustainable energy policies. Learning at Surrey also filled me with confidence when I went into the job market because I had a strong portfolio of transferable skills I could utilise in any career.
What is your advice for students aspiring to work in your profession?
